Welcome to Aquila Aurorae! So, what are we all about?
The concept of Aquila Aurorae came into being during the first lockdown and has developed into something magical to share with you. The second lockdown, plus a delightful bout of COVID, gave me time to think about what I wanted to do and what was important. Too much thinking time, in fact, and coupled with a vivid imagination I have found myself on this journey - so here we go!
The name
​
Aquila is a constellation whose name is Latin for 'eagle'. It is thought to represent the bird that carried Zeus (Jupiter)'s thunderbolts in Greco-Roman mythology. Its brightest star, Altair, forms the Summer Triangle asterism along with Deneb and Vega.

Aurora is also drawn from Latin, meaning ‘dawn’, and is goddess of the dawn in Roman mythology and Latin poetry. Aurora renews herself each morning and flies across the sky, proclaiming the arrival of her brother Sol (the Sun). She also has a sister, Luna (the Moon).
